Flow Commentary:Notes from the field

At the last Flow Forum in Montclair, New Jersey, we explored the many relationship issues that most of us overlook. Though overlooked, these issues greatly impact the quality of our relationships but, have nothing to do with love per se, but can affect the development of a truely loving relationship.

Flow Fact:

- Few of us have experienced healthy, thriving relationships and many of us have accepted settling for unfulfillment.

Contributing Factors:

- How healthy are our relationships with ourselves?

- We don't take responsibility for our choices. It's not who you get, it's who you choose.

- We don't take the time initially, to get to know someone. We are usually in a rush to where?

- We don't even know what questions to ask to determine what we need to know, where we want to go or where we are at in our relationships.

- We don't talk the same language. There is no consensus regarding what is love, committment, expectations, sex, finances etc.

- We do not develop healthy communication patterns, something to be developed at the beginning of a relationship, not after it has been embarked upon. So, it's communication by crisis. Too late!

The Flow asks that you share your thoughts about love and relationships with The Flow online community. What Does Love Have To Do With It?

i agree ALOT with the statement that communiation needs to be established in the beginning of the relationship. communication is so important, it's almost like it hold a relationship together. if you dont know how to talk to your partner, you have nothing.

i commented a second ago, but forgot to put my school, so ill add more so that i get credit this time. my boyfriend and i used to have a lot of issues regarding communication. i always wanted to talk about a problem, and he never did. he'd rather go his serperate ways after a fight or if he was mad and see my in a day or two untill he was calmed down. even then he wouldnt talk though because he said if he did it would just get him upset again! thank god he finally realized how important communication is and is getting better with it.
