Flow Commentary:Notes from the field

At the last Flow Forum in Montclair, New Jersey, we explored the many relationship issues that most of us overlook. Though overlooked, these issues greatly impact the quality of our relationships but, have nothing to do with love per se, but can affect the development of a truely loving relationship.

Flow Fact:

- Few of us have experienced healthy, thriving relationships and many of us have accepted settling for unfulfillment.

Contributing Factors:

- How healthy are our relationships with ourselves?

- We don't take responsibility for our choices. It's not who you get, it's who you choose.

Many Thanks to all those who attended Flying Solo and Wondering, “What has Love Really Got to do With it?” Saturday, October 29, 2006. held at Intimate Engagements!

To Be Married Means to Be Outnumbered
By SAM ROBERTS
The New York Times

Married couples comprised just under 50 percent of the nation's households in 2005, the first time such couples made up a minority.

Married couples, whose numbers have been declining for decades as a proportion of American households, have finally slipped into a minority, according to an analysis of new census figures by The New York Times.

The American Community Survey, released this month by the Census Bureau, found that 49.7 percent, or 55.2 million, of the nation’s 111.1 million households in 2005 were made up of married couples — with and without children — just shy of a majority and down from more than 52 percent five years earlier.

The numbers by no means suggests marriage is dead or necessarily that a tipping point has been reached. The total number of married couples is higher than ever, and most Americans eventually marry. But marriage has been facing more competition. A growing number of adults are spending more of their lives single or living unmarried with partners, and the potential social and economic implications are profound.

Are Traditional Male/Female Roles Working in Our Relationships?

We bring into our relationships a frame of reference that includes male/female roles, expectations, and desires that come from a combination of family, society and our individual histories that often clash and get in the way of a meaningful relationship. How do we sort through the illusions and find fulfillment?

Many thanks to all that attended The Flow Relationship Forum, The Man or Woman of Your Dreams:Can You Handle It! held in Newark, NJ, Saturday 9/30/06 and made it a great success.

We covered alot of ground in our dialogue. But, I think that we confirmed what The Flow has stated in the past: What's Love Got to Do With It!

A healthy sense of self, taking responsibility for your choices, talking a common language with your intended or partner and defining relationships in ways that affirm who you are go a long in way in finding Mr/Mrs Right.

The Forum was video taped and exerpts will be used as a promo for the upcoming Flow Relationship Talk Show on Webb Internet Radio (www.kenwebb.com), channel 10.
