Ain't I a Woman?
Sojourner Truth uttered those famous words as a declaration of her humanity and womanhood during a women’s suffrage convention in 1851. As I look around, seeing the way many women dress, the short skirts, tight pants, the protruding breasts. I wonder, is this today’s definition of womanhood? I am because of physiology? Is bodily exposure a measure of femininity or does a double D cup make you more an example of womanhood than a B cup?
Our definitions of woman and manhood, for that matter, are formed initially by our caregivers, and then augmented by social influences, which unfortunately, for the most part, hinder many of our relationships and how we determine who we really are. It is important to recognize this societal imprint and become conscious of it.
Who defines you, your man, your children, a group of men on Madison Avenue , a rap video? Are you what you wear or what you do? Where do these current aberrations of womanhood come from? I’m sure, what I see around me is initially not a woman’s concept, but a concept deeply imprinted upon women. Now, don’t get me wrong, I definitely can appreciate a beautiful, well put together woman. And, having been a breast fed baby, I DO have a certain fascination for that part of the female anatomy. But, a woman is more than her body parts, and ultimately my attraction is more than skin deep.
The more women understand that they exist for themselves, the more they may consciously approach all relationships in healthier ways. As a male, I have encountered women who define themselves solely in terms of whether a man is in or out of their lives. They unconsciously invite men to devalue them, and in the process perpetuate an equally flawed definition of manhood. Understanding the dynamics and the patterns of how positively defining womanhood determines how others see you is vital because it makes possible more meaningful love and friendships. So, I would suggest, let Sojourner’s affirmation be today’s statement of self definition or otherwise, you relegate yourselves to be a interchangeable combination of tits and asses.

Well written and quite poignant! Who is woman and how is she defined...we certainly need a realistic and updated definition.
How much of what men want, should come into play how a woman adorns
herself, emotionally and physically... Isn't that part of the
problem... and in a lot of instances, getting cues form men who have
limited desire for self knowledge, thus creating fleeting illusionary
templates for women, that changes as much as the weather. Our
actions have far greater power on each other, than we care to admit, be
it right or wrong... And in contemporary society, image is
everything...
So who am I holding hands with walking down the street???? DKNY,
GM, Victoria Secret, Ultra Brite, white images of long flowing hair.
Unmasking from these layers, might have you running in the opposite way
reaching for an apple or pear, and be careful with that to.... Is it a
yeah, woman with all her power...
she is powerful and she is beautiful...
what matter more, the beauty within her or the beauty of her body....or
the gentleness of her mind or the softness of her being...
adam, with all his power was not satisfy or please...he had it all,, the animals, the sky, the whole planet earth..but he was not happy...until SHE came....into his life and into his being...she gave adam alot of pleasure...
with just one look she made him crazy...
at the end he worked very hard to please his woman...to the end.....
who is more powerful money or woman....??
